IS the 7900 GTO really out of stock at newegg?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130065

It's been like that for a week or two....

I was hoping to get it, and then upgrade via eVGA step-up to a cheaper 8800GTS or 8600 in 3 months.....

Any other solutions for me?

Here's the best card in that price range. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102067

If you simply must have NVidia or must have the step up to 8800GTS option, then look for the GTO in stock or step down even further to the 7950GT. You could also look around for a rare eVGA 7900GTX and get about the performance of the above X1950XT with the option to step up later.

Personally I'd want either a 8800GTS right away, or the best card for the money now which is the X1950XT 256MB. Then come next upgrade time decide what you want. You never know price/performance wise if you would still want the 8800GTS then or maybe an R600 based card instead. If there is a better card for the same price, then it would end up eVGA snookered you into buying less for the money twice with their little upgrade marketing deal. It would be different if the card you want anyway is the best in it's price range and happened to be evga. (7600GT for instance). Then sure, grab it and have the upgrade option down the road. But to buy less card for the money just to be able to upgrade, may not be the best choice.

eBay has some. Funny thing is I've been monitoring them on eBay for at least a month, and they are going for anywhere from 30-75 bucks more than 7900GTX's...figure that one out.

Reply to tool_462

Yep, not making anymore.

They stated from the beginning it was a limited release, aimed at exhausting the big stock of slow moving 7900 GTX parts left in the pipeline prior to the launch of the G80 stuff.

All that are made are out in the marketplace.

Yes, odd to see the GTO for ~$310 on fleabay, while the GTX is ~$260.

Whats the old saying, theres one born every minute.

Maybe the stepup program?

Don't buy any card off ebay if you plan to step-up:

Quote :

Product eligibility is dependent upon the following restrictions:
* Product must have been purchased through an authorized reseller, retailer, e-tailer, or distributor of EVGA products.
* Products purchased through unauthorized channels, such as E-Bay or other auction sites do not qualify for the Step-up™ program.
* Products acquired through a promotional contest or giveaway are also not qualifed to be used in the Step-up™ program.

(For a list of who is an "authorized reseller, retailer, e-tailer, or distributor of EVGA products" just go to EVGA's products page and look in the lower left corner of the menu. More info on Step-Up: http://www.evga.com/stepup/default.asp)

If you're just going to step up anyway, take everyone's advice and buy something else in the 7900 series. It won't make that much of a difference. The 7950GT KO is only five bucks more at newegg before the $20 mail-in rebate and will save you a slot until you do upgrade. I'm sure another site would have a good deal as well. Just make sure it's authorized for step-up!

Love your handle, btw.

The 7900 GTO has one purpose - to sell out whatever was left of the G71 chips. They did so very nicely - 7900 GTX for 250$.
If u were lucky enough to notice it, u could have gotten one.
In all of history, there has never been a card that has given such performance for such a low cost. The highest-end card for 250$, unbelievable.

Right now, u can either get the X1950XT 256MB for 275$ or the 8800 GTS for 500$. The X1950XT has only 256MB and its only GDDR3 so its just like the X1900XT, but they are charging u extra for the overclock. The 8800 GTS has DirectX 10, nuff said... or is it?

i have the MSI 7900GTO and it's an awesome card
was hoping to add another one next year for some SLI fun but thats prolly not gonna happen now with stock being so limited

apparently there's a bios flash that makes em a 7900GTX, so in theory you should be able to add a GTX and SLI em?

very curious about this...

For $280 you can get the eVGA GeForce 7950GT KO Superclocked which I believe is faster than the GTO right?

Reply to slim142

not sure, it would be very close. but the good thing about the GTO is that you can overclock em to gtx speeds easily

well with that big-ass fan in there why not....

I really wanted the GTO but never thought it was going to sold so fast. I regret now since I had to go for the 7900GS KO w/ HDCP

Track, where do you come up with such stuff? You sound like NVidia's PR Team. The X1900XT 256MB beat the 7900GTO more often than not AND it was cheaper. Not to mention many GTO's were crapping out when the memory was overclocked as they resembled the old problamatic 7900GTX's not the new fixed ones. 7900GTO does not = 7900GTX, we have been through this already. Lookie at some benchmarks then consider just how cheap the X1900XT was at that time. Then re-read and fix your comment. ;)

Why do u have to be rude? Im never rude to u. If u think im wrong just say so, but dont say "where do u come up with such stuff??" as if ur perfect and everyone else dosent know as good as u!

Ill make it simple for u:

7900 GTO 512MB - X1900XT 256MB

Can u see the difference? Because there is almost no difference in performance, its an X1900XTX vs. a 7900 GTX.

Tis going to be slightly difficult to locate that card as nvidia has slowed production on it almost completely.Goodluck.

LOL, I wasn't being rude, sorry if it came out that way. It just seemed like you way over-hyped a card like it was the most incredible bargain of all time , when there was a cheaper & faster card available at the same time.

BTW, the ;) was supposed to be a clue I was not being rude. ;)

You cant say "Would do u come up with such stuff", put a smily face on top of it and think its ok!
Everything that i do, i do in the interest of the OP's best wishes, i dont flame anyone and i think i deserve more respect for u, a fellow poster. Thats all im saying.

Track, I provided a link showing the X1900XT 256MB beats the 7900GTO most of the time, and sometimes by alot. Now re-read your comment.

Do you honestly believe that? If so, How do you explain a $220 X1900XT 256MB's offering greater than or equal to performance for less money if "in all of history, there has never....." Shoot, the 512MB X1900XT has been as low as $250 even so that throws your more mem is better arguement out too.

That's like me saying in all of history never has there been a card to offer so much performance for $150 as the X1650XT. Is that true? No of course not. The 7600GT offers as good performance for even less money. If I made such a rediculous claim, don't you think someone would & should challenge it? I do as it's not true. I feel you made the same statement in making that claim about the 7900GTO, and it's far from the truth. The GTO is not a bad card but was never even in the #1 spot IMO as it was beaten out by a cheaper card. It was the best NV high end bargain for a while buy still not the best for the money and surely not worthy of that "never in history" comment.

Look for GeForce 7950 GT parts instead:

eg: http://www.xfxforce.com/web/produc [...] tId=638284
- 610 MHz GPU core / 1600 MHz GDDR3 (most likely overclockable some too on the GDDR3).

- They're 512 MB GDDR3 parts too, just like the 7900 GTO / GTX series.

- Passive cooling (7900 GT fan was too loud IMHO, nice idea).

Any other good ones out there ?
