Is It Broken?

Yesterday while I was playing TitanQuest on my (3 years old) ATI9800PRO the grafic became glarbed, I closed the game and also on my desktop I had some shadows under the mouse pointer and the icons (vertical thin lines), restarting the machine also the BIOS screen was dirty with blue squares on background. I tried to reinstall the drivers, but nothing changed. now on every 2D application there are shadows under every items and the 3D games generate many star shaped polygons.
Is it the grafic card broken?

I will check the fan this evening for now I only tried to remove and reinsert the card in its AGP slot, but I closed the case without checking the fan

I never overclocked the card, nor any other component

If it is a temporary overheating problem when I will switch on the PC this evening it must not be present at first, if the heat damaged something the problem will be present from the power on

I will let you know the outcome
thanks for your replies

I'm baffled, I insalled in the system a spare ATI9200 and installing the drivers all went well (alas the 3D performances are a lot lower and there is not T&L support)
But the strangest thing is I tried the ATI9800PRO in a different machine in the office and there it work perfectly
I will try to reinstall the operatin system from scratch
I wonder how many board are trashed as broken...
can it be that the problem is on the DVI output?
in the office I used an analog VGA connection

Sounds like the ram on the card overheated. The 9800pro is a good card in its day,but now it's time for an upgrade.Even a 1600pro 512 outperforms the 9800.There are still a few agp cards around, might have to look a little though.Goodluck.

Either the 1600pro 256 or the 7600gs.Do not get a 6200 whatever you do.7600gs I believe outperforms the 1600 so best deal is 7600 but 1600 will kick butt as well.Goodluck.
