I have been looking at every benchmark made of the new 8800's.
Somehow the specs of the cards dont seem to be on par with the performance in these benchmarks. Some benchmarks have the 8800's really high, where they should be, but most have them being compared to 7950 GX2's etc.
2. The 7950 GX2 seems to be either the same, or better than the 8800 GTS. The 8800 GTX is fine though, scoring much higher than both.
Now u could look at the 7950 GX2 and say "it's better because it has more texture fill rate, and the shaders on the 8800 GTS are not being used". But then u have this problem - the only thing that the 8800 GTX has over the 8800 GTS is shaders.. and a little memory bandwidth and pixel fill.
So then, how can the 7950 GX2 be better than the 8800 GTS, but not better than the 8800 GTX?
There is NO reason that the 8800 GTS should EVER have lower frame rates than the X1950XT. Each and every one of it's specs are higher than those of the X1950XT, some by far.
What do u think?
I think you are too much of a slave to raw specification numbers when you don't truly grasp their significance.
There are architectural and driver differences between the 8800 GTS and X1950 XTX. They make a big difference and always have. In many cases the X1950 XTX and 8800 GTS will be close contenders, each will have their own strengths and their advantages will show in spoecific situations.
There's no magic or voodoo happening there, that's just how they work. It's more than a numbers game.
It dosent work that way with me. It takes me an hour to decide what ill have for breakfst. Right now though, i dont know if i should get this card for 425$ or the X1900 CrossFire for 325$.
I wouldn't pay $325 for an X1900XT, unless you're not buying in the States.
Why not? Thats a good price. The X1900XT 512MB should cost around 300$. The X1950XT 256MB still costs 275$, so it makes sence for the X1900XT 256MB to cost 250$, just like it did before it went extinct. poor X1900XT, it was too beautiful for this world.. Seriously, it was so beautiful that ppl just bought all of them!

8O Perhaps PC help is not what you need...
"just go with the [meal] that gets the best [taste and/or energy boost] in the majority of [days] you [work]." It also helps to have the same thing everyday.

OK. $325 is not 300 or 275 or 250 is it? I was talking about the X1900XT 256MB version anyway. Weren't you?
Wow, I never thought one could say something so romantic about a video card... :|
In any case, it was replaced by something even more magnificent called X1950XT. Cleeve gets high when talking about it (see his "Short List" - no offense Cleeve ). So no regrets for that good ol' now-replaced card.
Why is no one taking is seriously? Im glad i posted it on other forums.. ppl here are a little too biased..
YES, i havnt decided yet. Ive been trying to decide for months.
What u ppl dont seem to understand is that looking for a card is half the fun. The other half is actually using it.. but u cant have both.
It think i would have no problem buying that card if only i had a good PC.
I didnt buy it, so it sucks - 17" monitor and all.

We're biased because we don't recommend the older, overpriced, and under performing hardware? How about you get an FX62 to go with your overpriced X1950XTX.
Obviously the X1950XT is the only other choice besides the 8800 GTS.
How come? Why not X1900XT 256mb? Or maybe something like X1950Pro, or X1950XT 256mb. Or even the 7900GTOs or 7950GTs?
There are much more cards than just a X1950XT.
I still think you should go for a 8800GTS.
Yeh.. i bet u do.
Let's see..
X1900XT 256MB - DEAD
7900 GTO - DEAD
7950 GT - ALIVE (dont want to have to volt mod to get it to 725Mhz)
X1950 Pro 256MB - ALIVE (im not that cheap)
X1950XT 256MB.. hey thats what I said!
8800 GTS - ALIVE, but only sort-of. It exsists for one reason - so that ppl can say "hey look at the X1950XT, it costs just as much as the 8800 GTS!!".. well so does the X1900XT. If u checked Circuit City lately, they have one up for 891$.
Sorry to go right off topic here everyone, but Cleeve, since your in my womans pants and were already talking about GFX, what's the story behind the pic in your avatar?

If u have nothing 8800 GTS to say, say nothing at all..

If you think you know the answer then why ask! Don't be freaking arrogant with line like: I bet you do. We told you a 100 times are opinion, just choose a god damn card and stop being arrogant!

Look who's talking, we tell you to keep it in one post cuz it's annoying and you tell us we don't own the forum.
So don't try to tell kicky28 what to do. At least he is funny!
I will officially hijack this thread just for that!
Hey prozac I thought it was a Vipde in you pic, kinda surprise how close the intrepid would look like!....
Btw, you stayed polite so you can go off topic any day!
I think that this avatar is to show that the 9500 was the exact same as the 9700Pro.
The 9500 could be modded(?with a bios flashh?or another easy mod) to a 9700Pro. that was the sweetest deal ever and people like Wusy liked it a lot =).
Cleeve will tell you the whole exact story. Video Cards are not my specialty and my memory is not always perfect. (damn alcohool and drugs! )

My avatar shows the simple bridge you have to solder to turn a 256-bit 9500 into a 9700 PRO. W00t!
