I have a PNY Geforce 7600GT
Stock: Core 560MHZ/1.4GHZ Mem effective
I had it to about 610/1.51 overclocked,
and then I did a volt mod with a pencil and I could get it to
636ish/1.52 Mem effective stable in 3dmark05.
I got a score of 6575 in 3dmark05, but I am not thrilled, I was hoping for 7000. I can push the clocks to about 650/1.54 ish but it won't be that stable.
What should I do to increase performance besides buying another card? Or is that not possible?

Depends, what are your other system specs?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 overclocked to 2.33GHZ (Mobo can't go higher), 1GB Corsair 533 DDR2 ValueRAM.
I was thinking of a BIOS update, but I haven't seen any BIOS files for a PNY Geforce 7600GT. My card isn't even shown on their site.

what kind of temps are you seeing with the card.if they are high maybe you could add artic silver and a better cooler and get it a little higher by overclocking more. good luck with it

I mean with my existing hardware. My mobo can't do crap anyways. I'm not even thinking anywhere near SLi

I had mine running at 620/1600 completely stable, albeit with a zalman cooler. So technically, you can try to push your memory higher. I'm not sure if that will give any significant benefit without a proportional OC on the core tho, but you should give it a shot. You're running your card pretty damn close to the maximum that people obtained, so if you're still unsatisfied you might need a faster card. Personally I would just "tough it out" by lowering image settings and reducing aa/af, since it doesnt really make sense at this point to buy a high-end Dx9 card - especially if you're upgrading from a decent card already. Mainstream DX10 cards should be out soon, and prices on the 8800 will drop once ATI comes out with their own version of DX10 cards.

Cheers

I doubt its heat on mine cause my temps are fine, and I don't have those symptoms.
It's only that I get freezing and then resuming 3dmark 03 and 05 (not tried with 06) in benchmarks if Core Clock is too high.
If Mem is at 1.54, I get serious artifacting in 3dmark 03.
And I'm wondering if some of this is because I'm running x64 Windows :(.

A DX10 card might require a new PSU too though, it sounds like you've gotten about the best OC you can.

You could try getting a Zalman cooler or modding a Zalman CPU coller so it can fit on your vid card. Other than that you have one hell of a nice overclock. I'm running my EVGA 7600GT CO on stock 580 and 750. No need to overclock anytime soon for me lol.

not sure if it makes a difference but i have a BFG 7600GT OC stock clocks are 560/725 with a succesful voltmod i have my clocks at 700/900 on stock cooling idle temps are 53c and load are 70c...getting a zalman soon hopefully that will drop temps

I have an EVGA 7600 GT KO sitting at 590 and 790 right now, and that's the highest the card can go without a voltmod. I might try one one day and see how I do.

Nice clocks though.

I would be pretty happy with your overclock. Can't really do anything else but to start saving money for a dx10 midrange card.

I got a nice Foxconn 7600GT @ 648/790mhz stable with stock cooling and no volt. mod. Just depends on the card you get, thats all.

Until I saw this thread, I thought the overclock on my card was average. It turns out, it is pretty good.

I have a Gainward GeForce 7600GT 256MB Golden Sample, that came with a huge passive cooler (no fan)

Then I added a 80mm case fan on top of it.

I am getting 670/800, maybe I could get more, but I am starting to see the first signs that I have pushed the card to the limit.

To answer your question:

Things I would do to you current rig:
Make sure you have good case cooling, stick as many fans in there as there is room for. (I have 2 sucking air in at the back, one sucking air in at the side, and have removed two 5.25 inch covers at the front of my case, so that air can escape)

Also, try adding a fan that directly blows cool air straight at your card.

In other words, just buy two cheap 80mm fans - 1 for case cooling, 1 pointed at your card.
