I just built a new computer:
-8800 GTS
-2.4G Dual core
-gigabyte GA-956P-DQ6 mobo
-antec 550W true power PSU
-DDR2 Twin2X 2048MB 240-pin DDR2 XMS2-6400 Corsair(2X1024MB))

I set it all up and then with the default drivers that came on the disk and then went to play the demo games on the disk and they looked like ass - like a game you'd run on 98. so then i went and installed the latest drivers but when it restarted the res was back to 800x600 and the nvidia control panal thing wouldnt open saying somthing about a "version mismatch, installing drivers may fix this".

i later installed farcry and that looked like ass on max specs too(on both default and updated drivers) but neverwinter nights 2 works fine and looks awsome.

I'm thinking its just the drivers but then why would the games that come on the same disk as the drivers look so shite. What do u fellas reckon my problem is?

uninstall all drivers, and restart then reinstall, i couldnt find your motherboard on a a google search but if it has onboard video make sure its disabled, and what do u mean by shite atleast try to explain yourself howabout a screenshot.

You couldnt find the mobo cos i made a typo its GA-965P-DQ6 - the 6 quad. sorry bout that. Well ive already tried the uninstall of drivers and this mobo doesnt have onboard graphics.

this the pic from far cry. Its not only the shadows either its everything - no crazy water and note the octagonal pylon. And thats on max everything, ive done it on lesser settings too. this is on the newer drivers.

ok uninstall your drivers....download 'driver cleaner pro' and use it to remove all the dregs. in driver cleaner choose to remove 'nvidia'.

then go here and download the latest 97.02 driver for your card

Have you updated Far Cry and downloaded the latest Nvidia driver for the Geforce 8 series?

Yeah i had the same problem running fear on full settings on my 7800GT every time i pressed ctrl button the screen would go really blurry and the frame rate would drop to single digits, so i just stopped pressing ctrl, jesus that was a hard game :lol:

IT WORKS!!!... and its so prettyful XD.Yeah it was the fact that i hadnt downloaded the patch. just seemed to bypass my thoughts that the older version of farcry might not support the 8800 chipsets. and it was the act of using driver cleaner that solved the contol panel problem. cheers fellas for the great help. you are all champions!!! Those graphics Look messed up, and you payed that money to see that ..... i would settle with a sapphire x1950 xt 256mb if i got a new pc.

Did you even read the thread? It was an issue of patching the game and works fine now. Better, in fact, than a x1950xt would run it.

u makin fun of the 8800 GTS? it'll smoke the 1950XTX in whatever you want, even if they are power hogs it dont matter.

if i didn't already know how it worked i would have no idea what you were talking about as it made no sense. oh and in 3dmark you mean shader model 2 and shader model 3 not 3D and 2D :roll:

sorry for derailing thread and good for the OP sorting that out as these niggly problems can be annoying.
