Howdy!

I am trying to burn a DVD with an external usb case w/dvd burner.

External usb case works with a 120 gb maxtor hard drive.

DVD Burner is a new pioneer 111d and works fine as an internal in the computer.

When in the external cae xp shows drive fine. (jumper set to master)

When I put a recorded dvd or a blank dvd into the burner it says it is empty!

Anybody got an idea?

Thanks,
John

hi.
is this happens with any media you try to burn?
use dvd indentifier to be sure that the media is present.
if no use quality media.

hi.
do u use dvd indentifier?
is the media regonzized there??
if no then its a faulty drive.
but be sure to try several times the media in dvd indent.
sometimes is not able to regornize them.

I also installed xp sp2 which didn't help.

It must be something in XP usb drivers.

I decided to try the firewire (case is both usb and firewire).

Worked fine. Go figure!

I get really tired of the quirks in MS OSes and hardware.

Have you tried a different usb plug in on your computer or even a different usb cable, also make sure that the usb cable your using is usb 2.0 compliant, some older usb cables may not be usb 2.0, as for it working on a firewire connection I would stick with that as its a faster connection then usb.
