I recently purchased a Sapphire x850xt Agp card from Newegg:

SAPPHIRE 100113SR-RD Radeon X850XT 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X VIVO Video Card - Retail

Description(Not on Newegg anymore)

To my surprise the card they sent me looks nothing like the one on their website, every software tool i've tried says it only has 12 ppl@500/500, and it benchs closer to an x850pro than an x850xt. Has anybody heard of this? I will likely flash the bios with another cards, but I'm not sure if it'll work.

Here's a picture of Card:

Atitools Gives me:

Dev ID 4B4B
Chip R481
Active Pipelines 12
Def Gpu 500
Def Mem 500
CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFFFFFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9F
CONFIG_ROM_FUSES 0x861
GB_PIPE_SELECT 0x2724

Update for future reference:

This board is an x850pro, but is easily modded to an x850xt (google and remember to use -newbios option). The stock colling is not as good as the regular x850xt but given proper airflow, can hit the same as you might get with an x850xt. I have run it in 3dmark05 up to 540/580 (from 500/500 (pro) or 520/540(xt) ) getting 6835 marks. I will likely run it even higher with some minor cooling adjustments.

The card on newegg is the (The Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition) thats the picture.

Heres a nice little report on the X800-X850

If it benchs and report having only 12pipelines you wanna call up newegg becaus you can sue em for false advertisment of an item, you wanted and payed for an X850XT yet you got X850PRO so call em up.

That doesnt look anything like my x850xt PE but the only sapphire i have (and wish i never got) is a 9800xt so not sure if that would change anything.

What they sent you was a X850Pro, the XT version hosts 16 pipelines and not 12 like the Pro version does. Now you are in luck because from the ATI Tool registers i can see that your card IS modable to 16 pipes. The question is, what do you do? If you can wait for a new card, i would recommend return it and ask for what they advertised on their website! And ask for something extra if you can for your trouble. If you can't wait for a new card, go ahead and unlock this one. Should be fine.

Good luck

I don't think it'll be an issue with newegg since they are selling x850pros at the same price. My real question would then be why sapphire is making/rebranding them as x850xt's.

That's a nice AGP card for $140. Odd if it's really an X850 pro as the specs to that newegg link clearly show 16-pipes and x850xt clock speeds.

I don't know why they do that, but its a pain in the ass. Palit or XpertView (same company) released an 9800 Pro 256MB which i bought first to find out later that it is with a crippled 128-bit memory bus. :(
They just like to play, making as cheap products as they can and sell them to deceived customers like us! If the site said 16 pipes and you got 12, then you got ripped. Fight for your rights!

yeah the pros were crippled compaired to the XT version.

Well I called up Newegg and they will of course take the card back as a return no questions asked. They also said they would look into it. Unfortunately I can't get anything better than an x850pro at that price point so I will keep that card and flash the bios.
