Can I setup a home network by using the 2 LAN ports on the A7N8X deluxe, a cable modem, and a PCI ethernet card in second computer? I'm running Windows XP in both computers. Basically, do I need a router? I was under the impression that I could set up a network by using 1 port to the modem and 1 to the second computer. Ive done this and run the network setup wizard a million different times. Sometimes I'll recognize the other computer and sometimes not. Either way, I can't share files, internet, etc.
Any ideas?

are u using a crossover cable to the second computer. a crossover switches the send and receive wires on one end.
You also need ICS installed which the wizard should have done.
A router would enable you to have internet access to the other computer without the other computer being on. Plus if the main computer should lock up or need to reboot you will lose the access on the second computer.
A router will also enable future expansion or maybe lan parties if you want to.
