I just installed a wireless Gigafast router (WF719-CAPR), I haven't played to much with settings as I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to routers. I have my main computer plugged into the router and haven't even got to the wireless part yet. My problem is I cannot receive email, I get an error message with Outlook Express and with Incredimail saying it cannot connect to my mail server. The internet and everything else seems to work fine. If I hook my computer back up normally without the router email works fine.
Is there some settings I should be adjusting? The manual doesn't really help me with this either.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Not sure if this applies to you, but make sure you're using FQDN (fully qualified domain names) for your incoming and outgoing mail servers.
From experience I can tell you that one of the biggest problem / issues I find with routers is that using just an ailas (like 'shawmail'), won't work and you'll need to add the entire 'shawmail.ed.shawcable.net' to get this to work.
You could try forwarding the ports for email to your computer, though that should definatly not be necessary when you arn't running a mail server.
Port 110 TCP for pop3
Port 143 TCP for imap
Port 25 TCP for smtp
If that works get a different router. You shouldn't need to forward ports to check your email, that is just stupid.
