Hi

Well as everybody knows, the VX922 is the fastest 19" LCD screen w/ 2ms response time and because of that I thought it would be great for me since my last monitor was a CRT one.
Right now Im building a new PC and is gonna have x1 GF 7900GS KO w/ HDCP and Im gonna be playing with my VX922 at 1280x1024 (max resolution)
I was thinking that in the future I might so SLI, but I heard SLI is not a benefit at all. You need a big screen with really high resolutions to enjoy it? Also, most people say SLI is not worth it with anything below resolution of 1600x1280?. Is there any disavantage using SLI (2x7900GS KO) in 1280x1024? Im not the kind of guy who has money to spend on big screens and DX10 cards thats why Im stick with 7900 series but I would like to know and feel what is to have SLI. I would like to enjoy SLI with my VX922 screen.

Any recommendations or comments about this will be welcome :)

Not worth it. You will not experience a worthy difference, so it's not worth getting another, aging card.

Try selling your current card and going for a 8800GTS.

Why?

Because of the resolution of my screen? or its size?

Both.

Pretty much 1600x1200 is the sweet spot for dual card systems.

In some cases you'll see a nice performance jump, but like I said, not worth it.

If you really want to, then go ahead, but if I was you I'll try to go for a G80, or wait for R600, and it has nothing to do with DX10.

Well I thought so, I never knew I needed more then 1280x1024 for a good SLI perfomance.

Well then I think I will just keep my 7900GS KO because I would prefer to get a better screen later on or the G80 :D

Thanks for your help

Well yeah I want to have a good framerate not only in 1 game but every game I have since I will be using my new pc for gaming. Ill see what my framerates are.

BTW I can just get SLI and then get a new monitor that would be a great idea :D Im not really interesting into G80 because its only a 7900GTX with higher clock speed cuz no game now uses DX10 not even Vista is out so is not worth it.... for now.

Where have you been? G80 has no relation to the 7 series in any way. It's all new, NOTHING in common.

And like I said, DX10 has nothing to do with it, it's the best card out there.

But isnt the 8800 series a simple card but with just new features and higher clock speeds?
I really dont have any interest on them and I might wait for the mid-range cards like 8600GT which will have a better price.

8800 is another world to a 7900GTX. Theres been tests, a single 8800GTS performs 14% better than 2 7900GTX's SLied. A 8800GTX beats 2 7900GTXs by 45%. And its DX10, thats another blow to the 7900. 8800's are beasts, R600 is supposedly better............I think.

They aren't even remotely similar; the Geforce 8800GTX has 128 unified shaders, while the 7900GTX has 24 pixel shaders and 8 vertex shaders. The 8800GTX also has geometry shading support, something the 7900GTX lacks.

Well I dont wanna get into this 8800 topic. I just wanted to know if it would be ok to get SLI but I see no (and just confirmed it would be a waste of money)

I think I will use 1 card until I change my monitor (which wont be soon). When I get some money I might get a 8800 card :D

Depends very much on the game mate: the interactive vga charts are your best source to look at, on there going sli with the 7900gs almost doubles your fps in oblivion in 1280x1024 from 8.8 fps to 16.8.
In prey again in 1280x1024 you get 47.0 vs 59.0 sli.
Half-life 2 is only really a 3 fps difference in 1280x1024.
Everyone else says wait for an 8800 but do you really want to throw away your old card when you get one, as you can't run them together in sli. It's up to you, do you want more performance now then go for sli, if you want more performance later then wait for a 8800.

Im going to be using a Core 2 Duo processor with 1Gb so that might bring me good FPS. Im going to check the charts now and see :D
