Well let's just set out your criteria for now.

You want:

- Core 2 based system

- A new monitor (of 19 inches or bigger for a greater res than 1280x1024)

- At least 120gb of hard disk space

- A powerful enough (±500w)

Now, are there any parts you're carrying over from older systems?

none at all xcept a crt monitor thats 20inchs that support 1600x1200 if needed

Well if at all possible you should get yourself off CRTs now, they're dead tech.

Well I'm not learned up on US prices so good, but I think for that budget you could get an E6400, 2gb RAM, 320gb HD and something like a 7900GS or something? That's super-rough though, I'm really not schooled on your prices.

should i get a 8800gtx i can get one for 300 bucks
November 25, 2006 12:02:13 AM

8800 gtx is ways out of hand because of your budget, I would get a x1950pro.

usually the 8800GTXs are around $650 or so... (unless i misread something that you put, lol)

for a $1200 budget, you can definetly fit an 8800GTX for $300 (that you said), and it would be worthwhile to do, top-notch performance and image quality in DX9, and having support for DX10 too when vista comes out... considering youll then have $900 left over to work with then, it is definetly managable...

$995 before rebates, $915 after rebates, leaving about $205 for tax and shipping

now, the only thing is, you already have a 20" crt monitor, capable of the resolutions youre asking, and much greater, im sure... with a max resolution typically of around 2048x1536 or so (so, if needed, the monitor expense is already taken care of, which also takes off over $200 from the total price as well, allowing enough room for other decent parts to be purchased)... if you go this route of parts that i listed above, its very feasible to do

if anything, the hefty expense of a large lcd monitor should be a seperate purchase, IMO... possibly made after you get money back from the rebates even, saving up some, and using any money left over after shipping and taxes from this purchase

i included the 600w psu, because a 500W PSU 'might' not be sufficient enough to run the 8800GTX, mainly only if youve had it for long (the power output capability and efficiency of a psu deteriorates over time)... also in regards to the 12v amperages of your existing psu as well, but, your 500w may just work... if it does work sufficiently with the increased load on the 12v rails, you can negate the cost of the 600w i included

and maybe the LCD your wanting might be affordable then :)

lol... one major thing, make sure the 8800GTX can actually fix in your case before deciding whether youre going to purchase it or not...

How about you don't buy stolen goods and pay proper money for them like everyone else?
November 25, 2006 9:13:41 AM

i agree.
November 25, 2006 9:19:15 AM

You come here asking what stolen goods to buy. Are you not even ashamed of that?
You don't deserve any more answers.

Anyone else clicked the report button?

With a combo of an IP log and that post are you not incriminating yourself and showing the world where you are?

A teenage thief who can't spell "dollar". Surprised he has the wherewithal to flip burgers.

Plus, I'm depressed. I was really hoping he had a legal source for $300 8800's.

open mouth, insert foot........you are no longer welcome here...cya
November 25, 2006 3:19:48 PM

So... I am confused. You plan to steal a video card and then come back to pay $300?

Grand theft is not "sumin stupid". Actually kid, it's "receiving stolen goods" if you buy it for $300.

I'm actually glad you posted though. For whatever reason you've helped me to decide to plunk change down on a (legal) 8800gt. And you've managed to highlight a serious moral streak running through Tom's HW's posters. Refreshing.

Maybe if you weren't so stoned you would realize that nobody (with any sense) likes a thief, not even other thiefs.
When you mentioned that you know some "cluckers" that steal from your local "frys" you put us behind the 8-ball, if we support you then we also support your admitted illegal activities, therefore it is in our best interest to condone you and your illegal activities.
It makes no difference to me what capacity you serve in these illegal activities but they and you have wore out your welcome here at "THG" because you failed to think before you spoke so let this be a lesson learned.
For your own benefit you should find a new group of friends and some legit activities before you end up like so many other teens......doing time at the gray-bar motel

What a fool.

Despite this I have to admit that I would find it hard to turn down a 8800GTX for £150 (=300USD) even if I knew it was off the back of a lorry

Agreed, but it's not something you wanna brag about, especially on a public forum........a touch of discretion can go a long way
