Sound card not working - please help

Have just reinstalled Windows. Installation went well, installed drivers etc etc. But no sound.... I have 2 sound cards,

1) Onboard 'SoundMAX'
2) HDA Digital Xplosion DTS CONNECT

Device manager reports them as installed correctly, working and with no conflicts.

However when I go to the sound properties in the control panel, it displays 'No audio device' rather than the list of two that I would expect.

Short of reinstalling Windows again I can think of nothing to do, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you disable the onboard sound audio through the bios?

Nope,

It's enabled.

Try turning it off. That might be the problem.

disable the onboard sound it could be a conflict. Besides that the onboard is 100% usless if you have a card.

The awful Dell BIOS won't let you switch it off.

There could also be a jumper on the board which since its a dell opening it would void any warrenty it had.
