Sound card not working - please help

Have just reinstalled Windows. Installation went well, installed drivers etc etc. But no sound.... I have 2 sound cards,

1) Onboard 'SoundMAX'
2) HDA Digital Xplosion DTS CONNECT

Device manager reports them as installed correctly, working and with no conflicts.

However when I go to the sound properties in the control panel, it displays 'No audio device' rather than the list of two that I would expect.

Short of reinstalling Windows again I can think of nothing to do, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
