Has anyone had any problems with the socket LGA775 Pins. ie. bent, broken, stuck, missaligned, etc.

The Pins look very fragile and look like they could have contact problems with the CPU, when compared to to the standard type socket with the Pins on the CPU?

Also, a bit of dust on the top of a pin could cause a poor contact to occcur with the CPU, if the dust or dirt does not shift on instalation.

Some MB manufacturers state that before instaling CPU, check pins for any damage.

For them to state that, there must be a certain amount of faulty sockets out there in new MB's.

Another question - if there was a bad contact with any one of the pins, would that cause the PC to not boot, or would the PC run slow, or behave incorrectly?

Thanks,

To date, I've not seen any problems with mobos with 775 "pins" being bent
or damaged. What the OEM is saying is just common sense. Always check
any socket or connector before installing. This includes PCI, AGP, DIMM,
PS2, ATX power, etc. I do this out of habit. Of course, on a known running
system, you don't always have time to check the backplane ports since
you already know they work... :D 775 mobos ship with a small plastic cover
under the CPU holddown assembly to prevent the damage that you're curious
about. The only way I can imagine these pins being damaged is to drop a
tool or the CPU itself into the grid array with the cover removed. Hope this
isn't your dilemma...
