Need Major Advice and Help

Hello I recently Fried my system Im sure Can't get it to do a full post. well I need advice on what I should get I have a budget of 450.00 maybe 500.00 us I have a sata 150 hd to use aswell as 2 dvd writers so I need a motherboard, cpu, memory, and Graphics oh my power supply is still good 550 watt modular. im going from amd xp 2200+ I love my amd but the benchs don't lie core2 is a killer can anyone give advice on what I can get for my budget obviously 2 gigs of mem is out for now I casually game fps and strategy, would like to go dualcore but maybe a singal will work for a yr or 2 please help. I mean really help I have scrapped together a t bird 850 right now that what is what I am on now?

Thanks I have some old cd roms and a couple of cdrw's I ight be able to sell on ebay to help bring my cash up thanks for the work also is patriot ram any good? I was previouly using kingston hyper x pc2700 ddr 333 with a cas2 latency
