Hi, i have OCZ DDR2 667 Value Pro series memory modules. By default, this RAM is set to DDR2 533 on my motherboard. So i set my timings to 4-4-4-8 @ 533MHz. The Memory is supposed to run at 5-5-5-15 @667MHz.

Now, sometimes my games crashes to the desktop with a "gamename.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close etc etc etc" error message.

Is this due to my memory settings? So far, two games crash in this manner: Need For Speed Carbon, and Dark Messiah Might and Magic. It crashes very seldomly, but its really irritating!

Maybe.

Download a copy of Memtest86, and run it for 12-24 hours, see if you get any memory errors.

Im using a 450W PSU. The whole pc doesnt crash, only the games crash. The pc still behaves normally after the game crashes to the desktop.

I havent tried the Mem86 test yet, but i can say that i ran 3D Mark 05 and 3D Mark 06 for a good couple of hours yesterday and no crashes. But this is since i let the MoBo decide the mem timings though

Ok, see, the RAM was designed to run at 667MHz @ 5-5-5-15 timings. So shouldnt it be able to run stable at tighter timings now that the MoBo de-clocked the RAM to 533MHz?

I think ill leave it at stock timings. My 3D Mark score is like 30-40 points lower, which isnt much.

I dont wana OC my CPU or anything, so im happy at the moment. Just hope i wont get any crashes anymore.

If a game or any other application crashes due to a weak PSU, what would the "tell tail" signs be? How would i know if it is in fact the PSU?

Heres a low down on my PC:
- 450W PSU (came with case)
- 7900GTX
- DVD Writer (LG Lightscribe)
- 80GB HDD (SATA 2)
- 250GB HDD (SATA 2)
- 2x 1GB OCZ DDR2 RAM chips

Surely a 450 what PSU should be able to handle those components, right??

I've been having the same problem with morrowind. I can play other games like Quake 4 or do video editing and there are no problems. It just seems to happen with morrowind. I have everything with my RAM set to auto in my BIOS, and I know it's not anything with how powerful my system is because I was previously playing morrowind on my older computer with an athlon xp socket A cpu and other hardware from around that time...

OK, so i checked my PSU sticker, feel silly coz i didnt write the PSU data down but i remembered seeing two 12V amp values. One was 15A and the other was 16A. PSU has a total of 450W.

Is this sufficient? BTW, after setting my RAM to stock timings, i dont get crashes anymore.
