I have both cards and want to know which is the better for gaming. They are both PCI-E. The x850 has 128mb of memory and the x1600 has 512mb. I can't seem to find a definitive place to compare these, so any help is appreciated. I got the x1600 for 99 on Black Friday at Best Buy.

Hmm, this should be easy...the X850XT is better. But you say you have a 128MB X850XT? Never heard of it, X850XT's have 256MB of mem. X800 128MB sure, but X850XT 128MB? My buddy Google didin't even seem to know of that card.

The X850xt wins hands down. Just look at the VGA charts. The X850xt more than doubles the performance of an X1600 pro in some cases.

calling you a n00b.

n00b.

My bad, it is an x850xt 256mb. And yes, to answer a question, I am a nOOb. You probably could have told by the post count of 3. LOL though, I guess I'll return the card and get my $99 back. I thought the 1600 with 512mb would be better so I jumped on it. I figured I'd research it later. Appreicate all the help.

the x1600 comes with extra visual goodies such as Shader Model 3.0... the extra stuff it has to draw and brood over isn't supported by its 'meh'ghz so it does perform considerably poorer in games

if you were looking to do photoshop or another graphicly rich design app then yes the 1600 is your card

but for gaming use the card with more power and less weight on its back (x800xxx)

I agree, the X850XT is MUCH better for gaming. As for the 128MB, the OP probably mistook the memory interface for the amount of RAM on that card.

That bestbuy sale price for a x1600Pro was a pretty fair deal. They must have sold a ton of those cards on friday. Every store I could mange to visit was out by noon. (hey, who really wants to get up in COLD weather before 5am???) I could have used that card for my fiance's computer. Oh well, there's got to be more deals ahead before Chirstmas! :p
