I'm about to build another new rig ...
I've previously used 2x512MB Corsair XMS2 Twin2X 675MHz ... and hit a 1028MHz wall at 2.1V CL5 ... some said I got lucky ...

This time, I don't want to rely too much on luck ... I want the best RAM for the price ... anything that could get me to 1000MHz for 2x1GB sticks ... Again, I'm a poor student ... I don't want to rely on luck, I want to purchase modules that have proven to work ...

Read some reviews over Anandtech, and they were recommending A-DATA's Vitesta, as the best value for money, hitting 970MHz ... for a 667MHz module ...

Please recommend with the price, and link to the product ... again, I try not to spend too much ... I'm looking for value for money modules that will bring to to as close to 1000MHz (or even higher?) as possible ... consider a poor dude here paying for his own tuition ... :(

These are the possible candidates that I've looked into ...

- Super Talent DDR2 667 T6UB1GC5 - $99 per 1GB stick ... Don't know about these, but rwatsdario told me to try to look into these if they're good ...

- OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB DDR2 800 OCZ2P800R22GK - Selling for $250 - $30 = $220 (a bit expensive, but if I could go with cheaper modules, would even be better for my budget system)

- Transcend JetRAM 2x1GB 667MHz (They go for $76 per 1GB on ZipZoomFly, but out of stock) <- Review says it can easily hit 910-930MHz ...

- A-Data Vitesta 667MHz ADQPE1A16K<- These proven to go beyond 970MHz for only $210 - $15MIR = $195

What else could you guys recommend ?

Personally, I'd go with the A-DATA. When Conroe first came out they had DDR2-533 2gb chips hitting 804mhz, so I think it's more than believable. Anandtech gave that set of sticks the best rating in their review that is now like 6 months old. (This was back in the good 'ol days, this dual channel kit was $150.)

See, the deal with those 667Mhz is that they can reach somewhere between 910~950Mhz. But for $20 more you can get up to 550Mhz with OCZ...
The Transcend seem to be the best deal, $152, mail ZZF to get a ETA.

I looked into the SuperTalent modules and all I could find was 860Mhz @2v but since these are using Micron chips which are quite scalable when it comes to voltage, you could take them to an estimated max of 950Mhz at 2.4v

Like I said, mail in rebates never come. Just think of it as a non-existent rebate, making the ADATA the best deal. Seriously, I say this from experience.

Splendid
Don't worry, the rebates will come. I've sent in over 50 rebates in recent years, and have only had to call to complain about non-arrival for 2 of them; they were sent out after I called. You just have to *exactly* follow the instructions, be organized by keeping photocopies of everything you sent in and every check you get back in the mail, and remember to check after a couple of months whether the rebate has shown up or not.

So far, I've received all rebates, except for TigerDirect's rebates. Which I've quite a few rebates rejected. I tried following up, and they said, under their terms and conditions, they'll not fulfill the rebate once the final decision is made.

Whereas other rebates, where if they reject, they usually send me a mail, and I'll follow up to it, and they'd usually offer the rebate too.

But then, I've never dealt with RAM rebates.

Anyway, I've emailed ZZF asking them when their Transcend will be available, for that price, I don't think I can complain.
