MSI P965 Platinum vs. Asus P5B Deluxe

Hello. I am building a new Core 2 Duo system that needs one 16x PCI-e for video and one 4x PCI-e for a RAID card. I am torn between the MSI P965 Platinum ($141) and the Asus P5B Deluxe ($184). I realize that all the available PCI-e pathways will be used by these two cards on either board. I am interested in opinions on either board.

MSI P965 fits your needs peferctly, it has one Path at x16 for GFX cards and another at x4 for other uses along with the usualy x1 PCI-E and PCI slots.

THG gave it a great review i hope on buying one myself heard its a great OCer for its price reaching 350+Mhz FSB.

P5B you wanna stay away from ive heard of some problems with mobo and the fact that it cost so much and can barely Overclock coupled that it uses the 570 chipset which compared to the newer 650,680I is just plain terrible.

The P5B series is one of the best overclocking 965s capable of over 500fsb.
it uses the Intel 965 chipset not the nVidia 570 :roll:

if the OP just wants to run stock the MSI is fine but it typically runs out of steam when o'cing ~360-370 HTT.

:? The P5B Deluxe (and the non deluxe) is based on the Intel P965 chipset and is a champion overclocker and with a bios flash now supports Crossfire. (If you do use the second PCI-e slot however it does render the x1 PCI-e slot useless, though I think that's a limitation of the chipset rather than anything else).

hmm maybe i was thinking about ASUS P5NSLI my mistake. As for the P5B reaching 500 i doubt that.
