Since several new high-end NAS devices have entered the market recently, would it be a good time/idea to round them up in a review?
The devices I have in mind are:
Infrant ReadyNAS X6
Infrant ReadyNAS NV
Thecus N4100
Anthology P400T
Intel SS4000-E
Newisys NA-1400
Sabio CM4
These devices are quite similar and have all in comon:
- 4 (hotswap) harddisks (for up to 2TB of storage)
- RAID-5 support
- gigabit network interface(s)
- low-power design
I know that several of these devices have allready been reviewed but often on different aspects and with different benchmarks. So they aren't easilly compared.
Thanks for your suggestion. We'll keep it in mind as we consider future articles.
We currently perform NAS testing at three different locations, using different techniques and computers. As you point out, this makes it difficult, if not impossible to compare results on an "apples to apples" basis.
We are revisiting our NAS testing methodology to attempt to provide performance information that is more useful and less dependent on the specific system being used.
