Hey guys

i got a HDD with one of the IDE pins broken off =o

is there a way to fix it? i tried using paper clips and hairpins but no luck =/

what i would do is stick a pin in the IDE cable ( in the spot that is missing a pin). if you pin in the right length it might make contact.

The solder size is resonably large on those connections so if you unscrew the control board (using torx heads - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torx - some multi-screwdrivers or socket sets have them) & you are real careful not to butn the board while soldering, you should be able to re-solder the pin (or piece of paperclip). Big sata drives are not so expensive but I know where you're coming from - fixing it yourself is rewarding.

Given that the pins are fairly far apart, put a dot of solder on the stub of the pin, and also solder the ex-pin hole in the connector. Then push, pray, back everything up.... Won't work for long, and might need some creative fastening to get enouth connectivity to work at all.

I won't ask how it happened.... :)
