Hi, at the moment I don't have the money to upgrade to a core 2 duo due to christmas and my girlfriends expensive tastes lol.

I've got an agp x850xt at present, and wondered if the performance gains of the 1950 pro would be worth the money £187.99 at overclockers.

Any advice would be appreciated.

yeah, thats like $350 USD, you can get a new mobo and a PCI 16x 1950pro for that price.
Well if there was a direct conversion but sadly in the UK we get things at an inflated price compared to the US so that doesnt count =(

Valid point. I'd say at that price it's probably not worth it. If you can wait until January (actually early February), the R600 is due out on the 20th of January, so we might see some price drops across the board. Might, not will. If you need a video card upgrade, I'd probably be forced to recommend the 7600GT, depending on what the price over there for it is. I don't want to, since there's not THAT much difference between your current card and it-well, it's definitely noticeable, but the point being that even at that outrageous price, the x1950pro is probably still the best bang for the buck-and therefore the 7600GT should only be gotten if you're feeling really poor and your framerates make you cry on a regular basis. Slight exaggeration, but you get the point. But if you can wait til February, I'd do that instead. You might be able to get a 1950pro for half the price then. Then again, it's the UK, so you'd still have like 70% tax on it. Up to you.

Edited. R600. R600. Damn my memory. RD600 is the chipset on the new boards, IIRC. R600 is the chipset on the video cards. There we go. R600.
