I need help finding a good motherboard. After reading a lot of reviews on Newegg and other websites, they are discouraging me from picking out the right mobo.

I want a mobo that will support SLI, Core2Duo, and will work the first time!!! So stability/reliability is a really important issue. I am also a LAN gamer so I need a mobo that will support full x16.

I was looking at the new 680i mobo's, they look nice but are way above my price range. My price range is $150-225. I am not sure what chipset to go for b/c after reading some reviews I guess the 975 was built for ATI cards? When do the ATI cards plan on putting out their DX-10 cards, and how will they work on the 975 chipset?

Any advice will be helpful considering the mobo is the base for all other hardware decisions.

If you want SLI and Core 2 Duo you are going for a 680i board. Sometime soon the 650i SLI boards are coming out and they will be more of a budget board. Not exactly sure on the release dates, but simple searches should find some results.

I know there are BIOS hacks available to SLI/Crossfire on some 965/975x boards, but someone more knowledgeable will be able to help you on that one.

Edit: No release date here, but it says 650 series boards will be in the $150 range.

Hmmm... interesting... any idea if the "budget" 680's will support full x16 in SLI? What features will it lack?

Does anyone have an idea when these boards will be released?

Thanks for your input tool_462.
