Alright.........this is regoddamndiculous. TG hires Charlie ' I wouldnt know what a CPU was if you shoved one up my arse' Demerjian?????? WTF is that about. Does Toms want to become known as the worst site on the face of the planet?????

I have a new theory:
Best Of Media is trying to deliberately destroy Toms in an effort to boost the french site EnNumeriques ratings

Omid had already damaged toms, but since BoM bought it:
They have taken it further off track.
Thay have added newer and useless sections
They slowly been working to replace any actuall articles with adverts
They let the hardware site slip off into a third tier, behind the curve, also ran
They destroyed the forums
They destroyed the forums again
They destroyed the forums once more just for good measure.

Now they hire an internationally known imbecile?

No offence to the UK bretheren, but charlie falls into the catagory "Galatic Moron". Hes no Hillary, but hes a great enough twat that you guys should have nuetered him and locked him in a padded isolation room after hist first article

This forum format sucks. Bring back the old one.

OMG... I thought we had the top slot here in ZA in terms mindless decision makers but this just might push us to #2.. :hello:

[/Has flash back to the old forum and cracks a tear... ]

Who gives a fcuk about the hardware articles anyway?

Reply to Tom_Smart

I used to, but they become more ambiguous each year so as to confuse me even more when I go and read them with 80% surety - how can you conclude with a 50/50 spread? Closest I get is architecture exploits.

Reply to Vokofpolisiekar

I have read maybe 5 Tom's articles since the day BoM bought this crud hole. Christ the average post by DB is better structured and researched than the crud they pump out nowadays..

Reply to audiovoodoo

When I first encountered Toms, I based 90% of my hardware buying decisions on what was written in the articles.

Now? Zero. I read through their articles and develop a splitting headache.

I joined the forums after a few years, because there was a huge concentration of skill, impartiality and intelligence.

Now? Noobs. Idiots. Fanboys. The occasional bright person, but most of the geniuses stuffed off.

The forum format worked beautifully, it was easy to use, and it just... worked.

Now? Tinker, tinker, tinker, splat. This new format to replace the old is pathetic. It's close to unusable, it's moronic, and the only useful bits are eclipsed by the sheer unusability of this damned format.

Finally, in the old days, a page would load pretty quickly on my 1Mbps wireless link. Now I often wait up to a minute or so for anything to happen.

Mind you this seems to be a general trend.. Slashdot is going down hill in quality, Giz is just a bunch of kids playing with phones and TV be gone. It seems that unless you are some l33t gamer wanting to spend a fcuking fortune on the mega extreme version of something you really do have to hunt for good info.

Reply to audiovoodoo

Too true. I've been thinking about upgrading for a while, but have been out of the PC tech loop too long and Tom's is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorcycle.

Can anyone recommend any decent sites for consumers who'd rather not buy a 4 grand machine that looks like something out of a cheap sci-fi movie?

Well, the sites I frequent include bit-tech.net , Anandtech and Xbit.

Reply to Vokofpolisiekar

The problem I have is finding anything that includes compatability testing with Linux. Anandtech have not posted a Linux article in nearly 12 months last time I looked :(

Reply to audiovoodoo

Perhaps because only smelly, jobless hippies use Linux?

Oops, sorry ;)

Well, llama, what are you looking to do? I've been doing a lot of research lately, so I can help a bit.

I'm guessing your router don't run Windows. :p

Reply to audiovoodoo

My router doesn't run at all. It just sits on a shelf and routes. Hence the name router.

It's not called a runner, silly primate.

If an ocean liner takes you through the ocean...
And an air liner takes you through the air...
What does a panty liner do?
