I was wondering if I could buy or make some kind of device that allows me to switch on a computer (with a low voltage ATX power switch) over the internet. The computer unfortunately does not have Wake on Lan, so it would have to be done some other way.

Ideally I would be able to operate the switching via a Web interface. I have 2 ideas so far:

1. Use something like a Lantronix embedded server module. Only problem with this is I have no idea where to buy devices singly like this in the UK. Also they look prohibitvely expensive (ideally I would like the device to cost less than £20)

2. Modify an old ADSL modem router. I'm not sure though if the device would have the correct type of output. I thought it could possibly be hacked by attaching a lead to one of the LEDs or something like that, but LED's tend to blink, and they cannot be directly switched via the web interface (as far as I am aware)

Any help that can be given would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark Hammonds

PS Changing the mobo is out of the question as the computer is an xbox!

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately they are prohibitively expensive. I am looking for a solution that would cost about £20. The computer I am trying to control is a xbox based NAS, hence the desire for a cheap solution / hack. Any ideas?

These type of solution usually cost a lot of money.

Maybe you can find a cheap use one on ebay.
