Hi, I have W7 64bit, up till recently all my icons worked perfectly, now all my hard drives show a generic icon (page with 6 squares), my optical & removeable drives are still OK

I have erased the icondb file, the desktop.ini file there are no autorun.inf files on any of my drives, when i reformatted 1 of my drives, the icon popped back, after reboot, it was gone again

has anyone else had this issue?

Hello there,

Couple things to try to get your icons back.
First right click on the desktop, choose 'view', then make sure the checkbox is checked to 'show desktop icons'

Another which is known is caused by the free CD/DVD software called "Infrarecorder". Is that installed?
This is a CD\DVD recording software. When you install this software the Windows option to Show Desktop Icons is unselected. To Fix this just turn that option back on. If that corrects it, consider uninstalling it and using another recording software.

Hope this helps.
