'Sup guys, well, Im planning to upgrade my modem and router to improve connection for gaming. First of all, I have a cheap modem and router that is included by the ISP. It's a Linksys and from what I read in some reviews it's not good for gaming at all. So Im looking at buying new modem and router for gaming mainly.

I went to newegg and found this modem and router. Im just wondering how much this would improve my connection in gaming over my older networking hardware. I've read the D-Link are good products.

For the modem: D-Link DCM-202 High-Speed DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem

For the router: D-Link DGL-4100 10/100/1000Mbps GamerLounge Broadband Gigabit Gaming Router

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6833127060

I find this products very interesting and as I have read some reviews it's pretty good when it comes to online gaming. And lastly how do you change the MAC address anyways?

I appreciate for anyone's help. Thank You. :D

Can point out which reviews are out there that state that LinkSys is not good for gaming? I have a WAP54G myself and find it difficult to join msn hosted games. Can't find any reviews myself on this topic.

Toms has it with their chart. They place it in order from the fastes to the slowest and my current Linksys router happens to fall behind the bottom. The D-Link has around 90Mbs while my Linksys has only 19Mbs in terms of speed. I've also read not while ago from some other people that they said they have some significant increase in there connection speed and low ping average. With my Linksys right now, playing BF2 gives me around the 120 average ping amongst the servers. With the D-Link some said that it could improve it to 50 if not lower. With that I become so interested with the D-Link 4100 router. But I want to know more of it before I it, like I want to hear from someone who owns it and using it to play onling gaming.

This is the chart:

Wow, what a service, thanx.
Seems I have to get rid of my LinkSys gear then.

Thinking about setting up a dedicated server for flight simulation. Looking at an Opteron based rig on a Tyan Mobo.
Still not sure what kind of DSL/Cable subscription is required to make this happen with hundreds of players online.
Is it not funny that LinkSys, which is part of Cisco, which routers connects the entire internet, would have these problems.
Best swimmer drownes.

Yeah, so I might be getting the D-Link DGL-4100 router at Newegg. Sure my current router is great for surfing online but during gaming everything slows down. Sometimes in the middle of the game (BF2) my screen freeze up and says "Problem with connection" so I finally found out that my router is not great for gaming. Anyways I'm using the SBC Yahoo ISP, and I've heard that Aldelphia is great for gaming as well. Right, now I might order just the router first to see how much improvement I can have with the connection. If I need better result then I might buy the modem as well. I'm really familiar with servers and stuff, but I would say you would need a fast line to run it. :D
