Hi,

I was wondering if the new Quad FX pairs would work on regular dual Opteron socket 1207 motherboards such as Asus KFN5-D SLI or MSI KFN4-DRE ? With or without nonreg, nonecc memory? Can you use the QuadFX instead of more expensive Opteron 22xx series ? With cheaper memory as well? I would like to cut the costs for a upgradable workstation I would build and I really don't need SLI. And I need 8 memory sockets as well. Do these QFXes work only on new NVIDIA 680 chipset motherboards?

Peace,
Lav

I really don't know, and that's an interesting question. I am leaning towards "no," simply for possible minor differences that would cause errors. I'm sure no one has tried yet, due to the lack of wide availability of the FX-7X~ processors.

Yes, the platform is too new and not very available. Plus, all these motherboards may need a new BIOS to recognize the new CPUs. It will be interesting to see later if the combination works.

Peace,
