Hey, I'm helping a friend upgrade his computer and trying to save as much money as possible. Computer will be:
Core 2 Duo 6300 or 6400
ECS P4M890T-M2 Mobo
2x512 DDR RAM
eVGA 7900gs
1 or 2 optical drives
1 7200 HD
The PSU he currently has is a LC-B350ATX, 350w with 16a on the 12v. Will it be enough to power this system? Future proofing not wanted, just barely enough to get this system running is preferred (tight budget).
anyhow the best budget PSU at the moment seems to be the XClio 450BL 450W it is less than $50 shipped. That 350w is just painful to even think about...
Is 350w really not enough? Does it have to do with the # of Amps? I remember hearing that the 8800GTS required a 400w PSU, wouldn't the 7900s be a good step below that? (Thus 350w being fine)
Well it will work fine until you start gaming, then the 16A max on that unit could be an issue.
I got about 230w from the psucalc so a good combined +12 would be at least 18A minimum.
that psu had even less amp's! amps matter more then wattage in most cases, and going down from 16 to 14-15 isnt a good idea. this psu is a couple bucks more, but its 500w's and has two +12v rails with 18a on each rail, much better.
How much power does that 7900gs need? Thats whats going to be sucking the most power. I was think of getting myself a 7900gs for my second pc, but my psu is a 430W and has only got 18A on the single 12V rail.
