How is it possible to read ebooks in .lit format on the iPAQ 4700?

I downloaded Microsoft Reader but I can only read ebooks on my PC. The
installer said my PPC's OS was too old! (Windows CD 4.21)

Any help gratefully received.

kind regards, Dave.

Should have been Windows CE 4.21 of course.

I'm presently awaiting a reply from HP. Going by what others have
said, it's probably a waste of time asking Microsoft.

If I can't get a compatible reader, is there any way of ripping the
contents to a different format, e.g. Pocket Word?

Dave.

Dear Victor Meldrew,

I have friends that say it is a waste of time doing things too. It's
not always right for me (even if it is for them)- but the way to find
out is to try. Is an email too hard for you to try, you prefer to moan
without having tried?

If MS don't get emails from people with earlier programs saying they
want compatability then they are justified in not providing support- no
one asks them to provide it. You may be your own worst enemy and be
providing the proof that no one wants just what you really do want.

Just install it anyways. A default message saying program was designed
for the older version of PPC but will still work. Also apparently
watch out for new update in next few days which is supposed to work
better with vga on 4700.

As soon as I buy any ebooks in .lit format I use ConvertLIT to remove
its DRM protection. This is purely for my personal convenience. For this
reason I never have any problems regarding using wrong versions of Reader.

Thanks Nikki. I have had the opposite installer message 'designed for
previous versions...' and have successfully ignored it on several
occasions. This time I wasn't able to install the software at all.

Problem solved, grateful thanks.

Dave.

I have a hx4700 and it would view the instruction manual, but if I opened
Encarta, it locked up my PPC. How did you resolve this matter?

John
