XBOX 360 Hard drive question

This is just something random I have been thinking about. I have a 360 with the small hard drive and I was wondering, since it is just a 2.5 SATA hard drive, is it possible to just buy a bigger hard drive from newegg, format it in FAT32, and drop it in or is there some software that has to go on it before the 360 will recognize it?

Actually it is quite easy to do, but MS, wanting to keep the XBox 360 hardware proprietary and force owners to pay high prices directly to MS for upgrades, did some pretty nasty stuff to keep you from updating....you just have to know how to get around the tricks.

-=5 easy steps to upgrade your Xbox 360=-

Step one: Purchase a 13 gallon polypropylene waste basket, available from Walmart for about $9
Step two: pour 9.5 gallons of boiling water in the basket. It is critical you use exactly 9.5 gallons. Any less will fail to cover, any more will cause leakage
Step three: Pour ½ cup of Mortons Iodized salt in the bucket and stir well
Step four: Place your XBox in the basket
Step five: Go outside and do something worthwhile with the rest of your life

yeah you can actually do that with a drive make sure you get the correct software load for the xbox360 though, there are plenty of iso's of them on piratebay.
