Can anyone explain the differences between these two:
GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3

AND ........

GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Socket T

From the gigabyte website the only differences I can see are the chipsets G965 and p965.

the GA-965G-DS3 has onboard video.
according to the spec sheet on newegg the GA-965P-DS3 supports hyperthreading whereas the GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3 specs list nothing about hyperthreading.

here are links to new egg specs

Yes, I understand that, but is that the only difference in the two boards?? is that the difference between intel p965 and intel g965 chipsets?

I have read a few different options in regards to onboard video.

I intend on using a PCI express video card with this board.

Some say get teh board with no onboard video, because the onbard video will still eat up ram.

some say it can be disabled.

My thought is that if it can easilt be disabled then wouldn't it be better to have it incase of failure of video card?

I bought both of these boards before, that is the only only difference between the two. the on board can be disabled. These are nice boards only trouble I had was that I needed updated intel drivers for the RAID to work properly.

As soon as you plug another card into the pci express port it takes priorty over the internal one and is disabled. To be on the safe side though I believe you can't disable it completely because if you did and you and on card failed you would have no video at all. You can enable it as well as your add on card if you want to run two screens.
