Hey folks. Decided on E6300 and the Gigabyte board...can anyone recommend PC6400 or other ram that will give these zip? Either 1gb Stick(matched later for dual) or 2x1gb duals. Willing to Overclock on stock cpu fan provided someone guides me. Thanks!

PS...I keep trying to submit this post and am getting "error occurred" msg...please ignore any duplicate posts...

Well, you could try G.E.I.L. 1GB pc-800 with cl4-4-4-12 timings very suitable for overclocking an E6300 or higher if that's what you are aiming for. If not it's still a good performance price/quality memory stick for around € 139 ($ 162).

I see you live in Canuckland like me. Best stuff I can find here is the OCZ DDR2-6400 from DirectCanada. You can order it and since you don't live in BC, you'll just pay the GST ;)

I have it, an S3, and 6300, and I got it @ 3.0 ghz no problem, less than stock vCore too :)

Hey, thats what I was thinking. Voltages can be upped for ocing ok? I'll have to PM you for bios settings to get that puppy up to 3 ghz.Thanks...

Sure no problem, send me a PM when you get your parts....make sure you list exact specs of your rig. The S3 has good voltage control, certainly good enough for alot of people to hit 3.0.

You might want to consider an aftermarket cooler though. Stock is ok, but not ideal. The extra $ is well worth it I think.

Here are a few to consider:

http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10450AC4602&vpn=FREEZER-7-PRO&manufacture=ARCTIC%20COOLING

Depends how much you wanna spend.

I plan on getting an Icute case like my son's. LOOK HERE This thing has a HUGE side fan which keeps ALL his temps quite low, so i'll bypass the non-stock hsf.
BTW, where U live?

One picky note: it's not so much the air cooling through the case that will keep the CPU cool, it's the CPU HSF. Think putting a beer bottle in the cold air versus putting it against an ice pack ;) The HSF has a greater impact on CPU temps, though the case airflow helps dissipate that heat. Regardless, the stock HSF will do fine, but it won't be silent, and not as good as aftermarket. It won't let you get as good OC either because of the temps. But you'll still get a good OC ;)

I'm in Mississauga, beside The Big Smoke of Toronto :D

Your "beer bottle" example was all it took for me to reconsider

Will re-evaluate cpu cost without stock cooling.
Are U sure about that RAM and CPU/MB combo timings?

6300, S3, OCZ Plat 800 and an aftermarket cooler = 3.0 ghz ;)

If you can find Corsair XMS 800 for cheap, then get that.....but I can't find it anywhere in Canada at an "affordable" price.

667 RAM *might* get you the OC you want, but it's iffy. OCZ 800 is not much more money than Corsair 667......so that's probably your best bet.
