Howdy,

I'm building a new PC, I'm not a hardware expert and would be very thankful for some advice.

Specifications

Motherboard

No idea.

CPU

Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 Processor / 4MB L2 Cache / 2.93 GHz Clock Speed / Socket LGA775 / FSB 1066MHz (X6800)

RAM

Some idea. I want 2GB RAM, but I have no idea about RAM types and speeds. What's the best/fastest available?

Video Card

Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX

Hard Drive

I was thinking about a small (40GB~) Fibre Channel (15.4k RPM) drive? The space is enough for me, but is Fibre Channel a good choice?

Cooling

PC/CPU/Video Card - no idea.

Power Supply etc.

No idea.

So what do you all think?

You could check out my forum post for a 2,000 dollarish build... It's still on the first page here... Just switch up to extreme processor and switch the HD, I already have a raptor or I would have put one of those in that build. :)

Hmm yeah, perhaps. What's a *normal* HDD (connection type) anyway? I'll probably end up making a small (but fast) fibre channel my primary drive, then grab a *normal* 300GB.

And can anybody tell me about RAM? What's the best money can buy?

Thanks.
