My friend recently built a new rig consisting of athlon x2 4600 am2 CPU, 1gig (dual channel) corsair mem, Asus M2n-e mobo, 2x160gb HD in raid0, Nvidia geforce 7800gt, and a high end 600w psu with 4 rails.

he says he pressed the on button one day and was shocked, after that the computer starts up for about 5 seconds and turns itself off. We've tested all the components except the CPU and Mobo, so im assuming its one of these, any tips/hints?

and yes we checked all the simple shit like cords being plugged in and cards being all the way in etc... etc..

Do a bare post setup out of the case on a phonebook. One stick of memory, heatsink/cpu, and video. Be sure to connect the 20/24 pin atx and 4 pin 12v leads, and power switch lead. You may also try another power supply if you can. Look for any burn marks on the board. If you rma the board to the vender or manufacturer, simply tell them the board won't post. Don't volunteer too much information.

The last Asus board I bought 4 years ago did that. RMA time.
