Hey guys, I was just interested in how much it really takes to make a hard drive from like western digital or seagate, etc. How much of mark up price do retailers or resellers sell for?

How much for a 250gb sata version?

Thanks!

Why not email Seagate or WD and ask them?

I really doubt anyone here knows the real answer to that, anymore than the manufacturers will tell you directly.

the average retail markup for computer parts is immense. retail stores like compusa, office depot, etc.. charge 2-3 times as e-tailers such as newegg on simple items such as cables, wires, memory and other computer things.

@op a hard drive i would reckon costs maybe a buck or two to actually make. but remember, the companies have to have r&d and whatknot, to get the technology started up. alls i know is dont ever buy a USB cable from a retail store. unless you like having your wallet raped

I was asking how much it costs to MAKE them, not buy them. I can get them off ebay for $65.
