CMOS vs CCD chip question?

I was told the only advantage that a ccd chip
has over a cmos chip is it's superior light
sensitivity. Is the resolution of a webcam
dependent on the gathering of more light?
I assumed the quality of the lens is a major
factor rather than the type of chip?

Yep, I'd agree. My best two webcams are both ccd, and far outstrip the
cmos one I have (though, to be fair, the cmos *is* older, but not by
that much).

I'd definitely be looking for a ccd sensor in the next webcam I buy.
Mine are good enough to be able to make out shapes of things (but not,
obviously details) under streetlights or porch lights at night, which I
think is pretty good going, considering - and my cmos one was hopeless
for anything more than just dark noise in a room with dim lighting.
