it has 4 80mm fans and i think they are doing a subpar job after 3 years that i have had them they are cheap and if i remember right around 20cfm each. looking to step up to 120's but how many can i fit in my case i am ready to buy them but want to know how many to buy i have a dremel ready.
This will be the first upgrade in putting together a new system when tax season comes around and quadcore prices fall.
Meh, I would just replace the 80mm fans with better 80mm fans. 120mm fans will have benefits such as higher CFM at a lower dB, but I don't see why you need to go out of your way and mod your case to add them when good 80mm fans should also get the job done.
If you care about CFM without heed to noise, then Vantec Torndao will be more than enough. There are also some decent 80mm fans that provide decent cooling while remaining relatively silent. And there are good all-around ones.
If you still insist on drilling holes... I'm not entirely certain on the current fan setup of your case, but I would have 2 front intake, one side intake, one top exhaust, and one rear exhaust at least. Your case should be able to accomodate all that (maybe just one front intake).
2 intake and 2 exhaust plus the psu fans i have been running my computer without the side on it cause i game and it is getting to hot i am thinking because of the fans i am looking into these cause they are ok priced and 80 cfm. and ya i like to cut things up also is there any real benifet to having a fan on the top of the case. i know heat rises but can it be that hot up there?
Man one time I built a computer, the guy ordered 2 Vantec tornado. I found a way to mount one in the front through the holes of the front grill, when I started the computer I was like OMG. They do sound like a tornado, or a 1U server for that matter. They do move a hell lot of air.
Oh and I just bough some Scythe S-Flex fan.
2X SFF21D, 800rpm, 8.7dBA, 33.5CFM
1 X SFF21E, 1200rpm, 20.1dBA, 49CFM
Having 5 X 120mm in the case I figured quieter lower CM would do
Swapping out the existing 80's for better 80's would be the pragmatic thing to do.
It looks as though your case has removable drive cages with 80mm fans built in. There isn't anyway to change them to 120mm fans on the drive cages, just not possible without making a whole new drive cage assembly and drive cage holder.
You could put 120mm fans on the bottom and top of the case to blow cool air in from the bottom and blow hot out the top, or put a couple 120mm fans on the side panel. You might be able get rid of the 80mm fan holder at the back and mount a 120mm fan directly to the case, providing it will fit. But given those drive cages, your options for putting 120mm fans in the front are pretty much shot.
WTF.. 8.9 and 20.1 dB... I can understand you want quietness, but thats a the limit of human hearing 8O
Meh, I consider 30 dB quiet enough for most things. Either way, nothing is stopping me from getting my 220CFM Delta TBF fan. MWAHAHAHAHAHA
Only at 54dB, which isin't that loud... meh... I work around heavy machinery all day, a little sound never hurt you. Sucks for my roomate though =P
Yeah kinda laugh when I saw 8.9db, apparently you can't hear them even when your ear is next to it.
Here's the deal I will have the MidSection 120mm intake of the TJ09, this fan is controlled by temperature, does 800-1600RPM can probably do 60 some CFM.
Then I will have the installed 120mm, I think its a 1200RPM ~20db 40 cfm. as a normal exhaust. Then the 2 super quiet as top exhaust.
And the 1200rpm I bough between the two HD cage with my 2X raptor and 1 seagate.
So roughly 100CFM of exhaust for a dedicated ~40cfm of intake.
The computer is like 10 feet away from my head when I sleep, I try to keep it somewhat quiet even though I am not that sensitive, I don't like shutting it down for the girlfriend hehe.
PS. Sorry for the thread hijack but I love to do it!
the drive cages are removeable there is just a platform it sits on too and i have nothing else in there so it can be taken off i also work around load areas so not realy bothering me a my computer is in a seperate room and could care less about the noise i do have some extra sound deadener laying around i have a fan controler but i think it is broken cause when i turn the knobs off the fans stay at the same speed and i have not taken it apart from when i installed it the first time.
i think i may have found some fourm that i get a responce from thinking i will be here a lot when i am ready to build in a couple months
BTW... Your not a native english speaker are you? I see no punctuation at all in your long non-sentences... kinda hard to understand you at times :?
The drive cages, might just get some better 80mm fans for those... not much you can do for that.
Add a rear 120mm exhaust, a 120mm side intake over your GFX slot, and add a top 120mm exhaust halfway on the top of your case. The top exhaust will help offload some of the heat from your GPU and your CPU, not to mention it's a good rule of thumb to have more exhaust than intake.
we speak english all the time in nebrsaka. i just get lots of stuff in my head and don't stop for proper writing.
My video card is realy suffering because of the side panel being off and 2 dogs that like being under my desk doesn't help either with hair and such. I will probly do that as it is time for another paint job for the case go a cool new test color from my paint supplyer. will try all that stuff cause when i put my hand out a little bit from the intakes i can't feel the air(these fans are done)
You might also want to invest in some good dust filters for your fan and some fan grills. Makes sure nothing gets in and nobody gets a finger hurt from sticking something where it doesn't belong...
Lol, my cousins are from "nebrsaka" and they speak "english" fairly well. I do know some intellectual types from a state called Nebraska and they all speak English very well.
On topic:
I have two of the 80mm Scythe S-Flex fans and they are amazingly quiet. I honestly can't even tell when they are on.
I also have 2 of the 1200 rpm 120mm (20.1 DBA) on my radiator and they are nearly dead silent. When not on the radiator they are silent, but adding in the very very slight "whooshing" sound of the air passing over the radiator fins makes them audible within a foot or two. Sitting here in my chair my PC is as audible as a DVD player.

I have had more computer related injuries with the Vantec Tornado, then all others combined. Damn that fan will clip the tip of your finger right off... Does blood ruin a motherboard.

I have had a tornado actually slice into my fingernail.. OUCH (well, thats not the word I used). went about 1/4 inch into the nail (from end of the finger).
