can someone clarify this for me?
hmmm, I can get a single chip of 1GB G skill PK series pc 2 6400 ddr 800 4-4-4-12 memory for the same price as the corsair 2* 512mb 5-5-5-15 ram 1024Mb Corsair XMS TWIN2X1024A-6400 DDR2-800 Memory Kit
(2x 512Mb Dual Channel Memory Kit). Which also makes the G skill better for upgrading in the future

Which should I go with? Is G skill reliable? I've heard the quality of Corsair ram is great and is worth the extra $$$.
Also, I am trying to overclock my CPU (e6400 to 3.0ghz), and since RAM plays a large factor in this, which would be a smarter (better overclock) decision?
Stability is very important.

thanks.

hmm, but the timings of the G Skill ram are lower, 4-4-4-12 compared to 5-5-5-15.

And the G Skill ram will allow me to upgrade better in the future, won't it?

Thanks.

i plan to go to 2 gigs but, I mean, 2* 1gb 4-4-4-12 ram would be better than 2*512mb 5-5-5-15 + 1gb of 5-5-5-15 wouldn't it?

And even so, 1gb of 4-4-4-12 G SKILL or 2* 512 of 5-5-5-15 CORSAIR, I'm not sure which is better.

I mean, the 2* 512 is in dual channel, yes, so I recieve a increase in performance, but, the 1gb has lower timings, so therefore which has a greater benefit to my overall purpose, of overclocking?

Thanks.

go for the 2 512's as this increse the bandwidth per Mb by 2 times, if you see the logic, also consair are more reliable.

I'd get 2 x 1 GB of the G.Skill in a twin pack and just save some cash.

G.Skill make very cost effective DDR2-800 at 5-5-5-15 at 1.9 - 2.0 Volts, so much so that you can get a twin pack now, with dual-channel performance and 2 GB RAM, then add a 2nd twin-pack later on (of the same type) to get 4 GB RAM.

Corsair 5-5-5-15 is a bit of a rip off IMHO.

I mean seriously, do Corsair 'manufacture' the chips on the DIMM ? - No, neither do G.Skill, they both simply purchase memory from Micron, Samsung, etc and use what is on the market with a heat-spreader / EMI shield attached to cover the chip specs.

Why pay more for the same part ?

Heck if the Corsair requires 2.1 Volts just to work at 5-5-5-15 at DDR2-800 speeds then the G.Skill at only 2.0 Volts is the technically better part.

If it was 1.8 Volts (DDR2 standard) it would be even better.

Thanks for such a great reply, but I have decided to get the Micron D9 chip Ballistix Crucial ram. 2* 512mb sticks. Pc 6400 and DDR800.
I heard they can go up to 1066mhz overclock so yeah, I've heard great things about this ram.

Thanks
