Ive got a core 2 e6400 not overclocked(2.13ghz). Ive got a gig of ddr2667 patriot ram and soon Ill have another gig to make two.

If I upgrade my 7900gt to an 8800gts, will the e6400 stock bottleneck my 8800gts?

I cannot(or atleast I think I cannot) overclock my cpu. I have a g965WH media board that it appears that you cannot overclock anything with it.

Should I upgrade?

Technically any modern CPU will bottleneck the Geforce 8 series, however it's unnoticeable and will not hurt performance at all, aside from the occasional synthetic benchmark; don't worry, it'll run great.

Yea, in this case it's a matter of Nvidia's drivers. ATI has been a little better in this regard, their cards are less bottlenecked by other system components due to more efficient drivers. The bottom line is, the modern GPU is going to be THE bottleneck for the majority of applications. Overclocking a little bit certainly won't hurt....

hey dude i just got a e6400 running on a gigabyte 965 chipset. got 2 gig 667 ram and a gainward 8800gts. this system got 8201 as a benchmark for 3d mark 06. it plays oblivion on full graphic ant1024x768 without any trouble unless in thick grass or heavily occupied areas. the e6400 may bottleneck the card slightly but for now its not going to affect much. id get the card and then upgrade the cpu late next year. thats my plan after much research.

I swear to god, if I see this same question asked again I'm going to lose my fuc*king mind and start killing people.

SEARCH THE FORUMS NOOB.
   True.

Anyway,
no, the E6400 will not "bottleneck" a 8800GTS.

Also, like Heyyou said, any modern CPU is a "bottleneck".

all you got to do is Overclock that E6400 to 3.oGhz or higher to unlock the true potential of that 8800GTS, i too have an 8800GTS paired with an E6400 and its just beautiful....
