I personally prefer smaller sigs as they just increase the amount of scrolling required. I know I can disable sigs, but many people put their specs in their sig and it saves me asking what their hardware is. I used to like large sigs though; I used to have a massive one myself.Bragger!
Thanks for all the responses, I personally agree that some sites with pages of sigs not only looks ridiculous but is annoying and tacky.
The thing is in this case the small increase of just 11 pixels height makes such a difference. The background is clearer and the text not so washed out, its only 395 long so well within the limits.
I still think 500x100 is an ideal sig size and very popular on the sig creation sites but hey thats another story.

The only time I ever really get frustrated with it is on the netbook with a wireless connection.
On my main rig the pages are pretty snappy.
The adverts cause more slowdown than the sigs but again, thats another story.
The thing is we, as a team seem to have settled with this style of sig so we won't keep asking for it to be changed.
I understand that you don't want to open up the doors for changing the rules every 5 mins but this is a minor alteration that surely can't have that much effect on the general flow of the website.
