Why are the signature sizes limited to 400 x 75 (I think)

Most decent sigs I've found are 500 x 100 which isn't a lot bigger.

I know not everyone is a sig fan but is there any particular reason for this size limitation?

Thanks.

There were some issues with members having large banners. They were really slowing down the pages when loading. The issue was brought up, and the admin/moderator team voted on it.

You could just resize it. ;)

Well the F@H stats sig full size is 468 x 60, at the minute I've just got half.

I would like to resize it but am unsure how this is done, any info would be handy.

So this is what I'd like to have, how do I make it work?

So I found this sig maker and resized it for the site.

Is there any chance of a sig size review its only a little adjustment to allow this in its default size.

They look so much better when they are 395x86 we are talking 11 pixels, can it be done???

+1 for larger sigs

+1 for readable (larger) sigs!!!
February 12, 2011 1:00:34 AM

yes bigger!!!

Having slightly larger sigs would be so awesome, 11px makes a lot of difference.

+1 :)

Bigger is better

I've always been told that size isn't important.

It takes a long time to get to England in a row boat. :D

Well in this case size is important because the reduced size that keeps the aspect is a lot smaller.

Not really asking for much am I, my happiness is in your hands. [:graywolf]

Is anyone going to take this request seriously or am I just pissing in the wind?

Some sort of reasonable response would be nice, I don't feel that its an unreasonable request.

I like how the only people posting here are the team folders.

The full sized sigs would look awesome though.

um, beanoslim, havent you noticed yet that best of media (company that owns toms) doesnt give a $h!t about you people that are doing folding@home???

you dont get that, do you?

BoM didn't come up with the signature size limit. That was decided upon by the mod and admin team. I can resurrect the discussion, but I won't guarantee anything.

ok :)

see, me being an @$$hole usually helps :)

thanks for trying to help us, aford1 :)

I personally prefer smaller sigs as they just increase the amount of scrolling required. I know I can disable sigs, but many people put their specs in their sig and it saves me asking what their hardware is. I used to like large sigs though; I used to have a massive one myself.

hey random, im sorry i said something rude. but could you guys please consider making it a ittle bigger :)

The request is being taken serious by the Mod's and hopefully a decision to support or not support the increase will be made shortly.

Bragger!

Thanks for all the responses, I personally agree that some sites with pages of sigs not only looks ridiculous but is annoying and tacky.

The thing is in this case the small increase of just 11 pixels height makes such a difference. The background is clearer and the text not so washed out, its only 395 long so well within the limits. :D

I still think 500x100 is an ideal sig size and very popular on the sig creation sites but hey thats another story.
February 19, 2011 10:09:25 AM

Well, remember that this site isn't that agile as is. I'd prefer not to have it load any slower. In the last two days I've had trouble just getting it to load at all!
February 19, 2011 10:55:37 AM

The only time I ever really get frustrated with it is on the netbook with a wireless connection.

On my main rig the pages are pretty snappy.

The adverts cause more slowdown than the sigs but again, thats another story. ;)

The thing is we, as a team seem to have settled with this style of sig so we won't keep asking for it to be changed.

I understand that you don't want to open up the doors for changing the rules every 5 mins but this is a minor alteration that surely can't have that much effect on the general flow of the website.
February 19, 2011 2:36:34 PM

well, with all those stupid ads (yes i mean that) the pages load SSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOO SSSSLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWWLLLLYYYY
anyway that a tiny bit larger sig wont make a difference!

now if you got rid of just a few of the spots you put ads in, then it would load a lot faster!
February 19, 2011 2:41:28 PM

The ads help pay for the site. Your sigs don't. :)
February 19, 2011 2:53:45 PM

folding@home contributes to possibly saving lives. your ads dont :)

And that is why I've re-opened the discussion on the sig size.
February 21, 2011 6:54:31 PM

Are we gaining any traction here or do these things just take a while?

I know the F@H team is eagerly awaiting the outcome. :)
February 22, 2011 3:14:02 AM

We're working on it. Someone will let you/everyone know if and when such a resize happens or if it is possible.
