Hello guys. It's time for me to upgrade. I basically have the cash right now (price doesn't matter anyway). The thing is, I'm really undecided. As far as I know q1 of 2007 is going to bring us (the consumers) lots of new goodies, including chipsets supporting the PCI-X 2.0 specification, along with the DDR3 thingie embedded in the Bearlake chipset from Intel. I have to mention here that I'm not going to buy AMD, it's going to be an Intel System. Do you think it's worth waiting a bit for the new conroes with the 1333 MHz FSB (E6650, E6750, E6800, and E6850). I'd basically go for kentsfield right now, but you see, the only kentsfield that's available right now is the qx6700 == 2 x E6700 == bullshit for me. I want a true quad core processor, now two dualcore chips stuck on the same die. AFAIK nvidia will release another g80 series GPU which will coincide with the release date of the new ATI gpu (developed by both AMD&ATI). I'm really undecided. I could simply stay with my current system (gforce 6800 ultra based videocard, nforce 4 ultra chipset-based motherboard, 2 GB DDR from Corsair, more than enaugh HDD space and an AMD X2 4800+ socket 939 processor).
So, what do you think? is it worth upgrading right now or should I wait for q1 2007?

First off, do not confuse PCIe and PCI-X; they are two completly different interfaces. Also, even the 8800GTX doesn't use nearly all of the bandwidth available in PCIe 16x.

PCI Express 2.0 (not PCI-x) will be released in Q3'07.
DDR3 will be coming out with the Bearlake chipset, again Q3'07.
1333 MHz FSB on Core 2 Duo is coming out Q2'07.
G80 derivatives will be released late Q1'07.

Now that you know everything isn't coming out Q1'07. Decide whether you want to upgrade now or wait another 9 months for all the "new" things to come out. Remember when new things are released, they carry an extra premium on the price.

If you find your computer lacking in games/other tasks right now, upgrade. If you feel your computer is working fine, keep your current setup.

Well I might just stick to the current desktop until all those goodies are to be released. I'm just going to buy two more GB of ram and make sure the current setup works smoothly. Thanks a ton for your replies guys 8)
