Okay, I know this is the CPU thread, but I do have a relevant question. Really. Read on, please.
So Quake 4 takes 5 minutes or more to load a level. Here's what's weird though. I just upgraded my machine to an amd64 4000+ and got a nice 7900GS to go with. All my games run noticeably better. Okay, way better. All except the old Quake 4. I felt like gunning some strogg, so I installed it, patched it and went to play and it took forever to load the first level. As in 5 minutes loading. Even launching the thing took forever.
Any ideas as to what's causing this? It's a new windows installation, and, as I said, all my other games run great. Why is Q4 giving me fits? Please help!
