Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards need some help with a p5b-vm and 7800 gtx oc

I got a used bfg 7800 gtx oc.. got the power into it. hooked it up.. and it seems no matter what I do, the PCi-e card will not display. Its runing, the fan is runnning. =Ihave no clue what to do.. anyone with any ideas your help would be greatly appreciated :(.

Here is my dilema. Ill explain the problem in as much detail as possible.

I went into the bios to check the integrated video. It was set to auto. Okay. Booted up windows on the ingrated, removed the drivers. Turned off the computer. Plugged the card into my pci-e slot. plugged in the power. used a dvi to vga adapter. turned on the computer. The computer starts up for a few seconds. At this point it seems as if its checking the pci-e slot. After 5 seconds the computer reboots and turns its self back on.
on this time around it stays on. nothing is happening on my display on the pci-e card, but the computer has booted to windows.

so to check whats happening, I unplug from the video card and plug into the itegrated to see if the video is showing. Ive got video from the integrated again..

it apears its not recognizing it, so its booting at start up and reverting to integrated.

if you can get to the bios, set your primary display as PCI-E, and disable the integrated without question. were there any problems with the card before you bought it?

the guy i bought it from swears that it works. and I believe him. its not like i bought it off ebay, or craigslist. well I bought it off a forum that has local members, and its not like it was some random member.

im pretty much lost. im starting to think a few things here:

a) the card is defective
b) my power supply is not providing ample power? - alhtough this doesn't make sense, because if there isnt enough power the card should stioll display.
c) my mother board is not recognizing it? bios revision???

You can also try going to the device manager and disabling the onboard video there. I have seen at times when disabled in bios for some reason it still would try to use the onboard as the main. Then shut down and connect the PCI-E card. Of course you might want to check the motherboard manufactures website for any bios updates (always a good idea).

Is there a particular way of doing this? Or do I just go to device manager and right click on the display and say disable? if I do this and the card still doesn';t work will i be able to re atach the vga to my integrated and get display if the card doesn't work?

Yes, just go to device manager and right click on the onboard video, then disable. It will ask you if your sure, choose "yes", then it will ask to reboot, select it "no". Then shut it down, insert the PCI-E card and connect the monitor and reboot. You can reconnect to the onboard video and reboot should this not work.

It sounds like the problem I had. I would turn on the computer and hear it boot up but no screen. It turns out there was something buggy with my LCD monitor. What I did was when I hear the "beep" of the computer booting into windows and there is no reaction by the monitor, I unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor for about a second and then replug it. Got picture back. My guess is the driver for the video card is a little buggy.
