I have a good old P4P800 Deluxe and was wondering if I could buy a PCI-E motherboard now and use my components (proc, memory, etc.) and then upgrade over time. I am trying to see if this is possible so I can stop comparing the AGP video cards.
Is this even possible? I see many of the newer Dual Core 2 boards say they support Pentium 4 processors. I have a Pentium 2.6 and Corsair 3200 memory.
IIRC, that's a S478 board so you will not be able to use your old processor. You would have to get a new S775 CPU. You can go with one of the Asrock boards like the 775 Dual-VSTA which will use your existing RAM and AGP card but also has DDR2 and C2D support. You'll still need a new S775 CPU though.
