I have 1GB kit Corsair XMS2 pro series (x2 512mb) ddr2-533 in my first build. I thought there would be 1GB sticks available when I felt like upgrading and it seems like there arent now. I am looking to up the RAM to 2GB. I got the ddr2-533 because it was a match for my E6300 and its timing are 3-3-3-8. I believe the latency is 4. Im undecided. Should I get a different brand since my Corsairs are 512 sticks and I dont see any for 1GB kits. Any recommendations? If I go to 667 or 800 is my E6300 going to loose performance. Thanx :)

You can get any brand you want. Whatever additional memory you add, the whole system will run at the speed of the slowest memory installed. OTOH, it's no problem to run memory at slower than its rated speed. I would suggest getting 2x1GB (giving you a total of 3GB), which will be plenty to run Vista.

I found Corsair ddr2-675 2GB kit for $209. So I can put this kit with my ddr2-533 for 3GB total? Can the 2GB kit xms2 sticks coexist with my x2 512mb xms2 pro sticks (((((xms2 and xms2 pro)))) or should I doublecheck with Corsair. Thanx

Sounds like a good price.

Yes.

Yes, those are just different model names, they are all DDR2 RAM.

Just note that since the MB has to run all the RAM at the same speed, it will run it at the speed of your slowest RAM installed. However, as long as you are not overclocking, DDR2-533 should be fast enough to completely max out the CPU's FSB.

Thanx :)

I just placed the order for the 2GB kit. When the kit gets even cheaper I'll just replace the 512 sticks with another 2GB kit. Yupp Im aware the ddr2-533 will be the speed. LoL would be nice if the higher speed bumped up my lower speed but thats living in a dream world

Next on the list is LCD monitor to replace my 17" CRT
I think after a few months the old stuff will now be replaced :)
