-Wondering if this could be a potential idea for some...

-Get an eVGA 8800GTS for right now, spend around 400$ for it, and then....
through eVGA step-up program, get a 8600 XX after 3 months (around April)...and get back like 100-150$.....

Therefore, save a lot of money, get to play with an awesome card for a while, and get improved DX10 technology with the slightly newer card....

Think eVGA allows that, and if they do, would it actually work?

Bonus question: how fast do you think a 8600 XX (i.e. GT) will go?, perhaps 7900GTO speeds?...

It will not be improved until G90.

Mid-range cards like 8600 will be based on same technology, but will be a lot less powerful in terms of horsepower, and performance. So you will be basically be getting a crippled 8800GTS.

8900s will be more powerful than 8800s, but still be based on the same architecture.
