..Ok, I admit I havent owned an intel box since a P120, but I am starting to look back at getting into 'em.. everything I have seen is pointing me towards intel, but I am curious as to the preformance differance between these two chips, or if they are even closely matched, price-wise they are close..but the specs & actual realworl differance.. well, I come here for the experts.

Thanks in advance.

The 6400 slightly outperforms the 4200+ and is a better overcker. I'd get the 4200+ only if I found a bargain mombo or (like in my case) to upgrade.

dude even my e6300 would pwn it stock...

and....my friend has the 4200 on a foxconn top of the line 590 chipset and he cant overclock his past 3ghz wit a zalman cooler...

i on the other hand am running my 6300 stable wit stock cooler at 3.15ghz....

e6300 only has a max multiplier of 7, while the 6400 has one of 8...same chip but one has higher multiplier(correct me if iam wrong)

Nola Contendere, dude. Didya ever see that old Sean Connery movie (I think it was The Untouchables) when he gets confronted by a Mafia guy in an alley with a knife? Connery pulls out a gun and sez:

"Aint that just like a W-p. To bring a knife to a gunfight."

Well, I'll let ya guess whether Connery was the 4200 or the E6400!

Yup, it's a no brainer.
The E6400 is arguably the best overall CPU in terms of price/performance.
It's rivaled only by the E6300 and E6600. ;)

The E6400 will have completed any task before the 4200- can say "I suck"
Enuff explanation?

Ycon, you're a dirty, filthy, disgusting, unwashed, stinky, Intel Fanboy with an advanced case of body odour!

Having said that, you're still absolutely right.

I have 2 systems at home one with each processor, Go 6400 all the way. Not that the 4200 is a bad CPU or anything, the 6400 is just plain better pure and simple. It might be a bit more expensive but it's worth the money.

I have a 6300 and just finished building a 4200 for a friend. Both side by side, my 6300 @ stock spanks the 4200. And with an easy overclock on the 6300, it absolutely embarrasses the 4200, no question.

Good luck with your new Intel ;)
