Good day! I've an existing 256mb pc266ddr ram. Which is a better combination:

1. 256 mb (1 stick, existing) + 256 mb (1 stick, additional) = 512 mb
2. 256 mb (1 stick, existing) + 512 mb (1 stick, additional) = 786 mb

I've heard of dual ddr channels...

I'm using mg pc in internet (5 websites/tabs open at a time) while downloading torrent. I also use it in wolfenstein ET online and nba live.

By the way, do you have any idea on how to repair a ram? My other ram suddenly doesn't work after a week when I remove the voltage regulator from my PC.

Thank you.

you removed the voltage regulator?! 8O why the hell did u do that, so you can increase the RAM's voltage?!

I suggest sending the RAM back if it still has a warranty.

You are an ____ if you try to physically fix it

Hi journeyman. The voltage regulator that i've removed is the automatic voltage regulator (low price ups) not the power supply of my pc. I think the fluctuation of electricity damage my RAM so i've only 256mb of ram left (1 stick).

Do you have a suggestion regarding my RAM combo?

Thanks.

base on what I know, it's alot better if you run 2 RAM that are exactly identical, because different latencies will cause bottleneck (not a prob for midrange user) and different voltage on each stick sometimes causes problem too

Hope that helps :)

You won't have any trouble mixing sizes, and having 768MB will be MUCH better than 512MB total.
