Is there a way to tell if the V551 has a EDGE connection or just a
plain GRRS connection?
I went the Cingular phone store yesterday and bluetoothed my PDA right
in the to the internet on the V551. Get right to the web sites I
usually use with my Siemens S56 phone. However, the speed was the
same as through my S56. Tech Rep said they had edge, but I could not
see the difference. Test I ran was to view the Yahoo Finance page.
Took 15 - 19 seconds to download on either phone.
Is there a way to tell if the V551 has an EDGE connection or just a
plain GRRS connection. This was in South Jersey (next to Philadelphia
and also in New Castle, Delaware). Was going to buy the new phone,
but could see no reason if there is no improvement in speeded.

Out of curiosity, what kind of PDA are you using? In general, are there
some good bluetooth PDAs with web browsers on them?

I use a HP 2215 Pocket PC with built in Bluetooth. It works well. I
can use it to connect to just about anything, laptop, desktop, phones,
etc. There is usally no delay between the device and the PDA when
using bluetooth. If i connect to the internet via my laptop I can then
connect to the internet via my pda via bluetooth. It's as fast as
being on the laptop, just a smaller screen.

Not directly -- you only can infer EDGE (actually EGPRS) from higher speed.

EGPRS will only give faster speeds than GPRS in good signal conditions.
In poor signal conditions, speed will be roughly the same.

I disagree because EDGE does deliver advertised and even higher speeds, as
documented in results I've posted here previously.
You have no idea what you're talking about (as usual) because you've never
actually used EDGE.
Chicken Little just keeps on going, and going, and going...
