I plan on doing a build somewhat soon and so I was wondering if the release of r600 will make g80 significantly cheaper? Seeing how the prices change after ati released the x1900 awhile ago I'm guessing yes, but just wondering what you guys think. Is it even worth waiting for r600, since last I heard it was being released in february.

My personal opinion, but I think they will come down just a little. The 8800GTX will stay well over $500, and the GTS over $350. From there, R600 and G80 will remain similar in price and performance. Over the months of Q1 and Q2 '07, they'll gradually decrease together as production and sale of the DirectX 9 era cards winds down. The GTS will likely level off around $300 with its ATI competitor by mid next year. It'll stay there until its replacement arrives to fill the mid-high niche.

Whether you want to wait or not is up to you (How bad do you want DX 10?).

If the R600 debuts at a similar or higher price, nV will have no reason to lower the G80. I'm thinkin' it'l depend upon the R600 and future GF 8 series models.
